The difference

Having a great product or service does not make a business successful. Demonstrating its value does. You can do this by creating and sharing jolly good content which builds trust and desire, showing your customers how you will solve their problems and improve their lives - or the lives of others. And here’s the thing: what worked then might not work now. Businesses often stall – or fail to start effectively – because they lack or lose objectivity. That's where I come in. 

"I know we need to do something but I don't know what!"

That's a pretty common paraphrase I hear from the people I work with. And that's fine: my value - in part, at least - is derived from being able to see things as an experienced outsider. Sometimes, the solution is straightforwardly operational: I will do X to get the desired outcome of Y. Other scenarios might require me to act more like a 'critical friend'. This approach works well in situations where there is talent in your team but, for some reason, things aren't working.

A critical friend can be defined as a trusted person who asks provocative questions, provides data to be examined through another lens, and offers critiques of a person's work as a friend. A critical friend takes the time to fully understand the context of the work presented and the outcomes that the person or group is working toward. The friend is an advocate for the success of that work.

Other clients come to me with a more formed idea of the action they want me to take. Sometimes that happens, but what we end up doing is often quite different or, during the process, branches out into broader or deeper work.

Then, considering your requirements and budget, plan a range of one-off, periodic or ongoing activities which help you connect with your audiences, measurably raising your profile and income. Constant evaluation and reporting ensures that you are reaching the right people, that they convert into customers, and become evangelists for your product or service.

Content creation

Once we’ve got a plan, you’ll need some jolly good content. In some cases I can produce everything myself or with your existing team. When needed, I’ve got a network of trusted specialists in everything from video production to social media marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO) to call on. 

Comms & training

Time to get your message out there and build your community! You might want me to handle everything; you might want me to train and support you to do it yourself; we might agree to outsource some; or a mix of all those things, depending on our combined skills and experience. Together, we’ll ensure that you’re communicating effectively with your audiences, whoever and wherever they are.
